How to Build Your Biz in 2018: Drive HX

There’s been a lot of talk lately about UX (User Experience), DX (Digital Experience), and CX (Customer Experience). All good.

This article is about HX. That’s right - Human Experience.

Let’s talk about HX.

Contrary to popular belief among some recruiters, there is no such thing as too much human experience. (Unless it’s all bad experience, but even bad experience brings forth insights, acumen and other valuable skills. A lot of experience is only a problem, if a candidate believes they have more than enough experience, and has stopped listening, learning or collaborating.)

Human experience offers empathy, wisdom, and the ability to see the big picture.

Here are 10 ways to build your business by driving HX -

  1. Be agile and open to change. You can rally against change or be open to possibilities. You decide.

  2. Find a real human need. Transform your business and do whatever it takes to deliver on that need.

  3. Talk to your customers. Never lose touch with the people you aim to serve. Listen. Take a walk in your customer’s shoes throughout the entire journey - literally.

  4. Walk the Talk. Hire a diverse team of old and young, with different experiences, and talk to your teams every day. All of them. You will be amazed at the insights you will hear from your front line and your oldest employees.

  5. Build a signature piece. Build an experience or a product which makes people say, “Who did that - I want some of that.” Inspire and find ambassadors.

  6. Collaboration is the new currency. Find people, partners, and change-makers who share your vision and explore opportunities to help each other.

  7. Do what you say and say what you do. Change is not about a new logo, a new positioning statement, or new platform or technology. It’s about real change from the inside out.

  8. Invest in your team. Stressed out, overworked teams lack creativity, passion and courage - three things you need to succeed in 2018.

  9. Do things that make you famous or show you care. Make your employees and your customers proud.

  10. Be human. Everyday.

If this does not make sense to you, see my article on Empathy.

Speaking of taking advice from customers, I just launched nine new service packages and would love your input. My strategy is to make it as easy as possible for entrepreneurs and career imagineers to choose the help that’s right for them in a couple of clicks. Let me know what you think and brutal honesty is most welcome.

Specifically, I would be interested in what you think of The Barter Package - trade your own expertise for coaching, writing or marketing. This is where tip #6 above came from. Amazing opportunities arise from cooperation, collaboration and conversation. I am currently partnering with an animation house, a crypto currency start-up and a social entrepreneur. Stay tuned on that! My point is, keep your eyes and ears open to possibility and you will find partners and opportunities everywhere.

Where do you want to go?
